Type 4 Diabetes: your weight is not the main risk for getting this type of diabetes

 Type 4 diabetes is not an autoimmune disease like type 1 diabetes, and it is not associated with obesity like type 2 diabetes. Instead, this type of diabetes may be associated with the aging process. Although research into this condition is ongoing, scientists have already discovered some links.

Diabetes caused by insulin resistance in older people who are not overweight or obese is referred to as type 4 diabetes. A 2015 mouse study suggested that this type of diabetes is likely underdiagnosed. This is due to the fact that it occurs in people who are not overweight or obese but are older.
